{ Fabulous Finds: trunkt }

We just came across this amazing site, http://www.Trunkt.org .Trunkt is an art and design collective made up of talented painters, illustrators, graphic designers, jewelry designers, textile designers, handbag designers and other creative entrepreneurs making a living from their artistic skills.

Created by a business consultant with a flair for textile designs, Trunkt started off as a trunk show with a handful of designer entrepreneurs in nyc. Now online, their mission is to keep mass-produced merchandise and big-box retailers from overwhelming the globe by championing independent artists and designers in any and every way they can.

We're loving the artists they carry, and getting a bit of continued inspiration as well, as the site is always featuring a diff different designer. They've even got specialty guides, so you can peruse and purchase by criteria such as "cruelty free," "eco-friendly," "fair-trade," "recycled" and more…a great way to use your purchasing power to make a difference and support independent artists!

{ Feel Good: discover hope fund }

Founded a year ago by Magdalyn Miller, a woman with a passion for people, Discover Hope Fund, an is international development nonprofit seeking to lift women out of poverty by encouraging financial and spiritual abundance through microcredit and sustainable support systems.

DHF gives small (micro)loans to women who live on less than $2 a day to begin their small businesses. This credit is the "fishing pole" so these women can begin to fish for themselves and change their lives. DHF follows up with education and support and teaches them "how to use their fishing poles." The power that is born in these women is incredible. DHF simply gives them the opportunity, they walk through the doors to manifest their own power.

DHF's current initiative is to raise $50,000 for a program expansion in Peru. They're currently accepting tax-deductible donations of any amount. DHF's loans start at as little as $25, so even the smallest donation can literally change a woman's life.

We're hoping Maggie won't be too busy to tell us a bit more about herself, so please check back for a possible interview and bio on this FEMPIRE approved woman!

( Film: Manufactured landscapes}

a documentary film by Jennifer Baichwal....This film definitely worth seeing….beautiful, moving and thought-provoking…here's a brief description:

"A factory that makes 20 million irons a year. A dam which razed 13 cities to the ground and displaced over a million people. A city where skyscrapers stretch as far as the eye can see. These are the subjects for renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky's camera. "Manufactured Landscapes" travels with him through China, witnessing that country's massive industrial revolution and visiting the site never before seen in the west. The film, like his stunning and disturbing photographs, meditates on the human impact on the planet without trying to reach simplistic judgments or resolutions. In the process, it shifts our consciousness about the world and the way we live in it."
